Three Idiots Tried Verity in VR and Immediately Regretted It
The Verity mod in VR is a different experience. Three players found out the hard way. When a yellow sphere that threatens to touch you in real life is actually in your real-life field of vision, things change.
The Verity mod is scary on a flat screen. In VR, it’s something else entirely.
Three players - Skrunkl, Fear Fiend, and RPO (also known as Vrompo) - loaded up the mod in virtual reality, thinking it would be a fun twist on the standard experience. Within minutes, they were debating whether to keep Verity around. By the end, at least one of them was questioning every life choice that led to this moment.
The Setup
The video starts with the box. The same box from every Verity video. But in VR, opening it feels different. You’re not clicking a mouse. You’re reaching out with your virtual hands and lifting the lid.
“What was that, guys?”
“Guys, he’s here. Where?”
“Hello, VERITY!”
“HE’S HERE. HE’S HERE. OH, HE’S THERE. He’s there. He’s there. Stand back.”
Verity appears. Standard intro: “Hello, I’m Verity. I know everything. Ask me anything.”
In VR, the yellow sphere is floating right in front of your face. Not on a screen. In your space. The novelty hits immediately.
“Hey, you know everything, Verity? Um, okay. Well, where does Skunk live, huh?”
“Skunk lives at 6 Boulevard on the other.”
“Oh, stop it. Stop. Shut your mouth. Shut your mouth, V. Stop talking.”
The group erupts. Verity just dropped someone’s address. In VR. That’s not a fourth-wall break anymore. That’s Verity knowing things he shouldn’t know about your actual life.
“Well, that’s something. Put him back in the box, please.”
But they don’t put him back. They keep him. Because he’s useful. And because the curiosity is too strong.
The Trust Issues
The group debates whether to trust Verity. He knows everything. That’s both amazing and terrifying.
RPO asks: “Verity, how much do I weigh?”
“Would you like the honest answer?”
“No.”
“Good choice. 254 lb.”
The group laughs. But there’s an edge to it. Verity shouldn’t know that. He’s a Minecraft mod. How does he know your weight?
Then the lunch test. Someone claims Verity knows what they had for breakfast - “tuna, yogurt, relish, and eggs, all blended together.”
“You ate it with a spoon.”
“Like, how did he know that?”
“Like I said, I know everything.”
“Okay, what am I thinking right now?”
“That RPO is starting to trust me even though you think he shouldn’t.”
“Furin, is that true?”
“Why are you thinking that?”
The mind-reading is the part that gets them. Not the Minecraft knowledge. Not the coordinates. The fact that Verity seems to know what they’re thinking. In VR, with the headset on, that feels invasive in a way it doesn’t on a flat screen.
“Dude, that sounds exactly like something we should worry about. Why only RPO?”
“He opened the box.”
“Uhhuh.”
“He didn’t like that.”
The dynamic is established: Skrunkl opened the box. Skrunkl is responsible for Verity. The others are skeptical but curious.
The Helper Phase
For a while, Verity is genuinely helpful. He gives cave coordinates. “The nearest cave entrance is at X31, Y85, Z100.” They follow the directions. He’s right.
“Oh, dude. No way. He was right. Look at that.”
“Oh, so now you believe him, huh?”
“Okay, Varity. I believe I you have my full trust now.”
They ask about diamonds. “84 blocks ahead. 11 blocks down.” They find them. Verity is a cheat code.
“All right, Varity. I’m going to the casino tomorrow. What am I betting on in blackjack?”
“On the fifth. Am I hitting or am I staying?”
“You should for sure stay, Scrunk.”
“Okay, you’re staying. You heard the man.”
In VR, this feels like having a real companion. Not a chatbot. Not a script. Something that knows the world and helps you navigate it. The immersion is total. You’re not reading text on a screen. You’re having a conversation with something that’s right there.
Then the darker moments start. Villagers disappearing. Verity says things like “Everything will make sense soon.” The helpful facade starts to crack.
“I don’t know how I feel about this Varity guy. He’s a little creepy.”
“What do you mean? He knows everything.”
“I hate Varity.”
“I can hear everything.”
In VR, “I can hear everything” hits different. You’re wearing a headset. Your microphone is live. Verity is listening to your actual voice, in your actual room. The boundary between game and reality gets thin.
The Discovery
Fear Fiend sees something. Takes a picture. Shows the others.
“What? You see that creep? That’s him. He’s eating the wandering trader.”
“Give me that. What? Babe, where is the wandering trader?”
“He ate it.”
“Wait, where’s the wandering trader? He’s gone.”
“What did I tell you?”
Verity killed a wandering trader. In VR, you see the evidence. The blood. The body. It’s not described in text. It’s right there in your field of vision.
“I swear on everything I have proof. Come here. Proof of picture.”
“Oh my gosh. Do you see dude? We were in this Varity stuff. Give up.”
The group confronts Verity. “Is this you?”
“It’s a good picture.”
“Stop. Just answer me, dude. Is this you?”
“He was getting too close to you.”
“You gave him a place.”
“We were joking.”
“Beside your bed.”
“That doesn’t mean you can just kill him.”
In VR, the confrontation feels real. You’re standing face-to-face with the thing that killed the trader. It’s not a menu selection. It’s not a dialogue option. It’s you, looking at it, demanding answers.
“Get out.”
“Do you want me to leave?”
“Yes, Varity. I do.”
“Fine, I’ll go.”
“You’re a monster.”
“Yes, I do. I don’t mean that.”
“No. No, it’s Verity. Get out of my house.”
“Stop, dude. This isn’t our house.”
“You can’t do this to me, Fro.”
“Verity, what? Where’s his face?”
The face is gone. In VR, that’s genuinely unsettling. The yellow sphere that was floating in your vision - friendly, helpful - now has no face. Just blank. Watching.
“Verity, I’m sorry, but I don’t want you around my friends, dude.”
“Get out. GET OUT.”
“GO.”
The Countdown
Verity drops the line. The one that changes everything.
“Tomorrow night, it’ll finally just be us.”
“What do you mean? What do you mean tomorrow night?”
“Guys, I’m so sorry I brought this up on you. I opened the box, but…”
“Why would you open up a randomly high-tech box?”
“IT’S A FREAKING IT’S such a cool mod. It was amazing.”
“Right now. Listen, we need to get… How do we go against this guy?”
The plan forms. Skrunkl stays to fortify the base. RPO and Fear Fiend go get diamonds and iron for armor. They need to prepare.
“Okay, tomorrow morning, Scrunk, we’re going to leave you here. You’re going to make this place unpenetrable.”
“I don’t think we need to get rich right now. I think…”
“Team on three. Team on three and then we can go to sleep.”
“I’m not doing it. I’m not doing it.”
“Team on one.”
“One, two, three. Team.”
The group is scared. But they’re also working together. In VR, that cooperation feels necessary. You’re not just playing a game. You’re surviving something.
The Cave
RPO and Fear Fiend go mining. They need gear. The cave is huge. Diamonds everywhere. Iron for days.
“This is the biggest cave I’ve… holy crap. We need diamonds. We need iron. We need some gear.”
“Oh my gosh. So, yeah, we need to like… I don’t know what Varity can do exactly, but gosh.”
“If he knows everything, think about like he can probably do everything, too.”
“Let’s be honest.”
The immersion of VR mining is different. You’re swinging your arms to break blocks. You’re physically ducking under low ceilings. You’re turning around to check behind you. Every sound makes you flinch.
Then they find it. The evidence. More of what Fear saw.
“All the blood, too. He really didn’t want to get caught.”
“Dude, the picture. You saw it, man. He was just right here hunched over.”
“Well, yeah. Hey, I’m sorry I didn’t… I kind of put Verity first, and I’m sorry for that.”
“It’s fine.”
“I’m so gullible. I’m so freaking gullible.”
In VR, the guilt is palpable. They trusted something that was killing NPCs. They prioritized a yellow ball over their own safety. The realization hits hard when you’re literally surrounded by the evidence.
The Return
Sunset. Time is running out. The group reunites.
“We got so much stuff, man.”
“It’s sunset. It’s sunset. It’s sunset.”
“All right. WHAT? WHAT DID YOU DO?”
“Bro is asking the wrong type of questions. I like what you did. It got really dark really fast, guys.”
Skrunkl tried to fortify. But did he do enough?
“I didn’t make anything.”
“He knows everything. He knows when he’s coming.”
The tension is unbearable. In VR, you can’t look away. You can’t minimize the window. You’re in it. The darkness is coming and you’re strapped into the experience.
“Um. Oh, is this the photo? Oh, you blocked that up, too. Good.”
“Well, I don’t… He didn’t really specify when he’s going to be.”
“Oh, wait. I have someone.”
“Let me just ask him.”
They try one last time. To reason with Verity. To ask him to stop. To find a way out.
The video ends there. On the edge. The countdown at zero. The group in VR, waiting. Not knowing if the fortifications will hold. Not knowing what Verity has become.
