Someone Remade Verity To Scare Their Friends and It Worked
A YouTuber set up a custom Verity mod experience to prank their friends. The custom version was apparently more terrifying than the original. 'I am never trusting Verity as a helper friend ever again.'
The official Verity mod is scary enough. But what happens when someone sets up a custom Verity experience with one goal: make it as terrifying as possible?
This is the story of a YouTuber who did exactly that. They configured the mod with custom triggers - the yellow sphere, the helper friend routine, the gradual escalation - designed to mess with their friends. Four players. No idea what’s coming. And a Verity that gets progressively more unhinged.
“Today, I recreated the entirety of the Verity mod to scare me and my friends.”
The Unboxing
The friends load in. There’s a box.
“Uh, do you guys see this moving box right here?”
“Yeah. What is… a present? Wait, is it talking?”
“Did you put a cat in there or like what?”
“No, just because I done that once doesn’t mean I’ve done it again.”
“It’s totally a parrot.”
They open it. The yellow sphere appears. Standard intro: “Hello, I’m Verity, your personal helper friend. Ask me anything because I know everything.”
“Wait, what? How do you know everything?”
“Um, I don’t think bowling balls have brains.”
They test him. “What’s 9 + 10?”
“21.”
” culturally accurate,” someone says. They move on. “What color is this flower?”
“Red.”
“Oh wait. He actually knows.”
The early minutes are pure fun. Verity is the helper friend. He gives directions. Answers questions. Follows them around. They carry him in their hands like a little pet.
“Varity, do you have siblings?”
“Varity is Verity. Has no siblings. Not entitled.”
“Do you have emotions?”
“Does not compute.”
“Yo, I like this guy.”
Verity tells them to go south. They go south. He’s right - there’s a village. “Varity knows everything.”
“Varity, what should we do?”
“Wherever your heart takes you. Most likely south.”
“Should we build a house?”
“We should build a house.”
“Start with four wooden walls on each side. Then a stone roof to protect from lightning.”
They follow his instructions. Building the house together. It feels like a group project. Verity is the foreman. He even has opinions about the second floor.
“Verity thinks it needs to be two stories.”
“With a dirt second floor.”
“A dirt? That doesn’t seem practical.”
But Verity knows everything. They don’t question him. “Dirt floor to grow crops inside the house.”
They build a shrine for him. A place of honor. “Verity appreciates this gesture.”
The Windows Obsession
Then something shifts. Verity starts talking about windows.
“It needs windows. It needs more windows.”
“Okay, we can go get some sand.”
“Please break hole in wall and place smelted sand.”
“Varity, settle down.”
“This house needs windows.”
He’s urgent about it. Not the cheerful helper anymore. Something’s different.
“Yo, have you guys noticed Verity is acting a little bit different than when we first unboxed him?”
“He’s almost like malfunctioning. Why was he saying windows over and over and over again?”
“He hyperfixates.”
They make windows. Lots of windows. Verity watches. Seems satisfied. For now.
The Lava Incident
Then disaster. Pepper mistakes Verity for a golden apple and throws him in the lava trap they just built.
“I KNEW IT. PEPPER. Where’s Verity?”
“Pepper, I know they’re similar in colors, man, but you just threw Verity in the lava.”
“I’m sorry, Verity. Well, what are we supposed to do now? I thought he said he was fireproof.”
“He’s not under the lava, guys.”
“Did we just lose our only Verity?”
“That is not a happy bowling ball.”
They apologize. They bring him back to his shrine. They try to make it right.
“But Kipley needed the golden apple and you looked like the golden apple. Stop doing that face.”
“You made him upset.”
They try to cheer him up with more windows. “He loves windows.” But Verity is different now. He’s not speaking. Silent treatment.
“He’s been giving us the silent treatment.”
Then a new face appears. Not the smile they know. Something else.
“That’s a new face. But it’s not as freaky as the other one.”
“Verity, we made some windows.”
Nothing. Then: “I’m sorry for speaking. Please.”
“Wait, no. He did. He just turned away.”
“He has no face.”
“Oh, I’m scared. I’m scared now.”
The Dark Turns
Strange music starts playing outside. Verity says one word: “Close door.”
They’re trapped. Something is outside. Glass breaks upstairs.
“A piece of glass just broke up here.”
“The music stopped. Are we okay?”
“I just hate doors.”
Then Verity is back. “Hi, guys.”
But the house is on fire. The lava trap is too close. They scramble to save things.
“It’s burning the box that V is in!”
“OH, VERITY, NO! Get him! Save him!”
They save him. Barely. Then ask about the thing they saw outside.
“What thing? I could not see.”
“Verity, where did your face go?”
“What do you mean? It’s always been there.”
“Yo, he’s lying to us.”
They don’t trust him anymore. But they need him. “Tell us where to go find some diamonds.”
“13 blocks south and 6 blocks down.”
He’s right about the diamonds. But there’s something else down there. Something that doesn’t belong in Minecraft.
“Is he just trying to lure us into the…”
“Whoa whoa whoa.”
“There’s diamonds. But why is there a flickering?”
“No, no, no. We’re not doing this today. We are not doing this today.”
Something is in the cave. Verity leads them there anyway.
“I won’t forgive you.”
“Okay, I think it’s time to go.”
“It said ‘I won’t forgive you.’ Okay, we’re leaving. We’re leaving. We’re leaving.”
They mine the diamonds. Running. Not wanting to be near whatever that thing was.
Then they try to play basketball with Verity. Because of course they do. Bouncing him around like a ball.
“Varity wants us to play basketball with him.”
“No, I don’t.”
“Yo, Verity is not amused.”
“We three should not have played basketball with him.”
Verity is sassy now. “Do it yourself.” The helper friend routine is completely gone. He’s a different entity.
They try to make a shrine. Build him something nice. “Not enough windows.” Again with the windows. “Not enough windows, not enough anything. I can’t see.”
What Happened to Kipley
Then Kipley disappears. Just gone. Verity won’t say what happened.
“Verity, where’s Kipley?”
“No. No. No. This is not okay.”
They have to search for her. In the dark. With the music getting louder.
“Pepper, why is it getting louder?”
“I don’t know. It’s like it’s coming from over there.”
“I see a shadow.”
“Is that supposed to be Verity?”
“Varity, is that you?”
Something is trying to get in. Trying to open the door.
“He’s trying to break in.”
“Varity’s gone.”
They hide. Get in beds. Wait for morning. The longest night of their Minecraft lives.
“DEWEY, GET IN BED. DO WE in bed?”
“Dewey. Dewey. Dewey.”
“Pepper. I’m not hearing any more music.”
“I’m not either, but it’s also still night and it’s been kind of long.”
They make it to morning. Barely. Then:
“You passed the test.”
“What do you mean test? That was not a test.”
The music stops. For now. But they know it’s not over. Verity said “rebuild.” They start building again. But everything feels wrong now. The house they built together. The shrine they made for him. All of it tainted.
The Final Scare
They try to rebuild. Verity says “Rebuild.” Then something happens to Pepper. Verity says her name. Then the chase.
“OH. OH. VERITY, I’M SORRY. VERITY, I’m sorry.”
“VARITY, PLEASE. I’M SORRY. I DROPPED YOU IN THE LAVA. I’m sorry for everything. I didn’t mean it.”
“I HAVE TO KILL YOU. I’M SORRY. VARITY, PLEASE. PLEASE, MAN.”
Then the final line. The one that says everything:
“Okay, that’s it. I am never trusting Verity as a helper friend ever again. That was the most terrifying mod ever.”
