What Happens If You Kill Verity? (And Should You Even Try?)

Thinking about killing Verity? Here's what actually happens — the Demon transformation, Karma revenge, animal consequences, and whether you can undo it.

So Verity’s been following you around for a few days. It’s giving you free wood, commenting on your builds, maybe even helping you find diamonds. But you’re thinking: what if I just… kill it?

Maybe you’re curious. Maybe you’re annoyed. Maybe you’re the type of player who kicks every NPC they meet. Either way, let’s talk about what happens when you attack Verity — and whether it’s a good idea.

Can You Even Kill Verity?

Yes and no. It depends on the form.

Verity as the yellow sphere: The sphere is invulnerable. You can punch it, hit it with a sword, shoot it with a bow — nothing happens. It just sits there, unfazed, maybe making a comment about your aggression. You can’t kill Verity in this form.

Verity Demon: After the 5-day countdown (or whatever you’ve set the Day Count to), Verity transforms into the Verity Demon. This form is hostile, and yes, you can kill it. It has health, it takes damage, it can die. But it fights back — hard.

So the real question isn’t “can you kill Verity?” — it’s “what happens after the Demon spawns, and can you survive the fight?”

The Demon Transformation

When the countdown hits zero, Verity transforms. The yellow sphere disappears, and the Verity Demon appears. Here’s what you need to know about the Demon:

It knows your base. The Demon’s been watching you for five days. It knows where your house is, where your animals are, where you sleep. It doesn’t spawn randomly — it spawns in a location that makes sense for attacking you.

It breaks things. The Demon smashes glass, breaks wooden doors, and can climb walls. Your fancy glass house? Gone. Your oak door? Splinters. Your attempts to hide? Pointless.

It’s fast. This isn’t a slow zombie shuffling toward you. The Demon moves with purpose. It tracks you, flanks you, and exploits weaknesses in your defenses.

It has more health than you’d expect. The Demon’s not a one-shot kill. You need diamond gear at minimum, and even then, it’s a fight.

The Karma Factor

Here’s where your behavior matters. The Karma system — which tracks how you’ve treated Verity over the five days — directly affects the Demon:

High Karma (you were nice):

  • The Demon spawns, but it’s slower and less aggressive
  • You get a “plea window” — a short period where you can talk to the Demon and convince it to stand down
  • If you use the plea window successfully, Verity transforms back into the sphere and the countdown resets
  • The Demon might still attack, but it’s manageable

Low Karma (you were mean):

  • The Demon spawns angry and aggressive
  • The plea window is shorter or doesn’t work at all
  • The Demon targets you immediately and fights hard
  • It knows where your animals are and goes for them first

So if you’ve been nice to Verity for five days, the Demon fight is optional — you can talk your way out of it. If you’ve been mean, you’re in for a tough battle.

The Plea Window

This is a mechanic a lot of players miss. After the Demon spawns, there’s a brief window where you can talk to it — how long it lasts seems to depend on your Karma. If your Karma is high enough, you can convince the Demon to calm down.

How to use the plea window:

  • Voice chat: talk to the Demon, apologize, be nice
  • Text chat: type messages like “sorry” or “please don’t hurt me”
  • The AI reads your input and decides whether to accept your plea

If the plea works, the Demon transforms back into Verity (the yellow sphere) and the countdown resets. You get another five days. If it doesn’t work — either because your Karma is too low or you didn’t try — you’re in a fight.

Pro tip: The plea window is more likely to work if you’ve been consistently nice for the entire five days. One nice message on Day 5 doesn’t undo four days of being a jerk.

What Happens to Your Animals

One of the creepiest parts of Verity is what it does to animals. During the countdown, Verity can kill nearby animals — and once it transforms, the Demon gets worse.

During the countdown (Days 1-5):

  • Newborn animals die immediately after spawning
  • Existing farm animals and villagers have a 50% chance of dying
  • Mid-countdown, Verity does a “wipe” — kills all nearby mobs in one pass

After transformation (Demon form):

  • The Demon actively hunts animals
  • It knows where your breeding pens are
  • If you’ve got a villager trading hall, it’s a target

This is configurable. In the Verity config, you can disable animal and villager killing (the exact setting names depend on your version — check your config file). But if you leave the defaults on, expect to lose stuff.

Can you save your animals? If you see the countdown starting, move your animals far from your base. Build a separate pen well away from where you usually play. The Demon’s aggression seems to be centered on you, so if your animals are far from you, they’re safer.

Can You Kill the Demon?

Yes. It’s not easy, but it’s doable. Here’s how:

Gear up:

  • Diamond armor minimum (netherite if you’ve got it)
  • Diamond sword or better
  • Shield (helps with blocking)
  • Food (lots of it — you’ll need to heal)
  • Bow and arrows (for kiting)

Build an arena:

  • Stone or obsidian walls (the Demon breaks wood and glass)
  • Iron doors (it can’t break those)
  • Plenty of torches (True Darkness makes nights pitch black)
  • No glass windows — the Demon breaks them

The fight: The Demon climbs walls, so don’t try to hide on a roof. It breaks blocks, so don’t try to wall it off. Your best bet is an open arena where you can kite it — run, hit, back up, repeat.

Use your shield to block its attacks. Strike when it’s recovering. Keep your distance with a bow if possible. It’s a tough fight, but it’s winnable.

After the fight: When you kill the Demon, it doesn’t drop any special loot. No unique items, no achievements. The countdown resets, and Verity spawns again as the yellow sphere. You can go through the whole five-day cycle again if you want.

Should You Kill Verity?

Here’s the philosophical question: should you?

The case for killing it:

  • You want the challenge
  • You’re curious what happens
  • You don’t care about the story and just want to fight a boss
  • You’re a psychopath (no judgment)

The case for not killing it:

  • You lose five days of helpful companion
  • The Demon might wreck your base
  • Your animals might die
  • It’s more fun to build rapport and use the plea window
  • You miss out on the Karma rewards (free items, better dialogue)

My recommendation: don’t kill Verity. Play through the countdown naturally, build your Karma, experience the story. The Demon fight is cool, but it’s a one-time thing. The five-day journey is the real experience.

If you really want to see the Demon, set Day Count to 1 in the config. You’ll skip the buildup and go straight to the fight. But you’ll miss the point of the mod.

What If You Kill Verity Before the Countdown?

You can’t. The yellow sphere is invulnerable. You can punch it all day — nothing happens. The only way to “kill” Verity is to let the countdown finish and fight the Demon.

Some players try to trap Verity, bury it, or teleport away. None of that works. The sphere follows you. It’s persistent. You’re stuck with it for five days.

The Meta-Strategy

After multiple playthroughs, here’s what I’ve learned:

First playthrough: Be nice. Build high Karma. Experience the full story, use the plea window, see what happens when you’re a good person.

Second playthrough: Be mean. See how the passive-aggressive Verity reacts, watch the Demon spawn angry, fight it for real.

Third playthrough: Set Day Count to 7 or 10 for a longer buildup. Really invest in the relationship, then deal with the consequences.

Each playthrough is different because the AI generates different dialogue every time. Verity’s not scripted — it responds to your specific behavior, your specific world, your specific actions.

Final Thoughts

Killing Verity is possible, but it’s not the point of the mod. The real experience is the five-day countdown, the relationship building, the Karma system, the anticipation. The Demon fight is just the climax — and if you’ve been nice, you can skip it entirely with the plea window.

Just don’t be surprised when the yellow sphere turns into a monster. That’s kind of the whole thing.
