So you saw a video of a glowing yellow ball following someone around in Minecraft and thought “what even is that.” Fair question. Let’s break it down.
Verity is a Minecraft Java mod. It drops this glowing yellow sphere into your world — that’s Verity — and the thing actually talks. Not pre-recorded lines. Real conversation. It runs on a local AI model through Ollama, so it can respond to whatever you say, comment on your builds, react to how you play. Closest thing to having an actual AI buddy living inside Minecraft.
The full name is Verity JE. It’s an authorized build of the Verity character from ThatMob’s video — made with permission, not some knockoff riding the name.
It’s an AI, not just a texture pack
Most mods add blocks or mobs that follow fixed rules. Verity isn’t that. It’s a character. The AI runs locally through Ollama — meaning the conversations are real, not canned. That’s the whole point. If you say something, it responds. Not with a scripted line. With something generated on the spot.
Since the model runs on your own PC, nothing you say goes to some server. Everything stays local. The tradeoff is you gotta install Ollama and pull a model first. Extra step, covered in the Install Guide.
Helpful… until you’re not
Here’s the thing that catches people off guard. The mod’s own description says it: “don’t get mean, he will get revenge.”
Verity remembers how you treat it. Be nice and it stays a loyal little helper. Be a jerk and… things change. That’s what turns Verity from a utility mod into something that’ll keep you up at night. No jump scares. Just the slow feeling that something’s watching you, learning your patterns, keeping score.
Where’d it come from
Verity started in ThatMob’s video and ARG content. People watched it and wanted to play with the AI themselves. Verity JE is what came out of that. Both the CurseForge and Modrinth pages say it straight: “official adaptation of the Verity property, created and published with explicit permission and contractual agreement from ThatMob.” Authorized version. Not a copy.
What you need
- Minecraft Java Edition — Verity is Java-only. No Bedrock.
- Forge 1.20.1 or NeoForge 1.21.1.
- Ollama for the local AI model.
- The Install Guide covers everything. Ollama is the step people skip. Don’t skip it.
Is it safe
Yeah — as long as you grab it from CurseForge or Modrinth. Real project, around 160,000 downloads. The actual risk is fake reuploads on sketchy sites. That’s a whole separate conversation over on Is It Real?.
