Verity Mod: Java vs Bedrock
Verity Mod Java vs Bedrock — which edition supports Verity, what's different, why there's no official Bedrock version. Clear comparison.
Picking between Java and Bedrock for Verity isn’t really a choice — Verity only works on Java Edition. But a lot of people search “Verity Bedrock” because they own Bedrock and want to know if they can use it. This clears it up.
Short answer
| Java Edition | Bedrock Edition | |
|---|---|---|
| Official Verity Mod | Yes | No |
| Supported loaders | Forge, NeoForge | N/A |
| AI companion (Ollama) | Yes | No |
| ThatMob authorized | Yes | No |
| CurseForge / Modrinth | Yes | No |
Want the real Verity experience — AI sphere that talks, follows you, remembers how you treat it — you need Java Edition.
Why Verity is Java-only
What each edition lets mods do:
Java Edition mods are .jar files running in a mod loader (Forge or NeoForge). Deep access to the game’s code — can add custom entities, run arbitrary logic, connect to external programs. Exactly what Verity needs: custom AI entity that talks to Ollama on your machine.
Bedrock Edition add-ons (.mcaddon files) use Bedrock’s scripting API. More limited — can change behaviors and appearances, but can’t run arbitrary code or connect to local programs like Ollama. The AI part of Verity simply can’t work within Bedrock’s constraints.
That’s why no official Verity Bedrock version exists. Not the author not bothering — technically not feasible with current Bedrock modding system.
What about “Verity Bedrock” on CurseForge?
Projects on CurseForge with names like “Verity BE” or “Verity Bedrock Edition”:
- Not made by the Verity JE author
- Not authorized by ThatMob
- Not the same mod
Separate community projects that happen to use the Verity name. Might be interesting on their own, but won’t give you the real Verity AI experience. Treat as unrelated, judge on their own merits. More on spotting fakes at Is It Real?.
Java vs Bedrock: the bigger picture
Deciding which edition to get specifically for Verity? Quick comparison:
| Feature | Java Edition | Bedrock Edition |
|---|---|---|
| Platform | Windows, Mac, Linux | Windows, Console, Mobile, Switch |
| Mod support | Deep — Forge, NeoForge, Fabric | Limited — add-ons only |
| AI mods (like Verity) | Yes | No |
| Multiplayer cross-play | Java only | Cross-platform (console, mobile, PC) |
| Performance | Needs better hardware | Runs on phones and consoles |
| Price | $26.95 | $6.99 (mobile) / $29.99 (console) |
Bottom line: Java is the modding edition. Bedrock is the accessibility edition. Want Verity, need Java.
Should I buy Java just for Verity?
Depends what else you want from Minecraft:
Get Java if:
- Want Verity and other AI mods
- Interested in heavy modding (modpacks, shaders, custom content)
- Already play on PC
- Want the “original” Minecraft experience with full mod support
Stick with Bedrock if:
- Play on console or mobile
- Want cross-play with friends on different platforms
- Don’t care about mods
- On a budget and only want the base game
Both? Minecraft sells Java + Bedrock bundle for PC. Windows = best of both worlds — Java for Verity, Bedrock for cross-play.
What a real Bedrock Verity would need
If official Bedrock version ever happens:
- Proper
.mcaddonwith valid manifest files - From official CurseForge or Modrinth page
- Says which Bedrock version it supports
- Traces back to ThatMob / the Verity JE team
- Somehow handles AI — companion app on your phone/PC or through Bedrock’s limited scripting API
Don’t hold your breath. Author hasn’t announced any Bedrock plans.
