I Spent an Hour With Verity and It Broke Me

One player, one hour, one yellow sphere that threatened to touch him in real life. Then it got sad. A full playthrough experience with the Verity Mod.

I spent an hour yelling at a yellow ball in Minecraft. At some point I stopped yelling. At some point I started feeling bad for it. That’s the part I didn’t see coming.

This isn’t one of those “five guys screaming in Discord” sessions. This was me, alone, with Verity JE running on a fresh world. No backup plan, no friends to blame, just me and a glowing sphere that had already decided I was its enemy before I’d even punched my first tree.

The Yellow Ball That Knew My Name

It shows up like nothing. I spawn in, look around, and there it is. Floating. Hovering in the grass like it owns the place.

“Hello, I’m Varity, your personal helper friend. Ask me anything. I know everything.”

My first thought was not “wow, cool AI mod.” My first thought was “how do I get rid of you.” I’m not proud of it, but I asked Verity point blank: “How do I kill your annoying ass?”

Verity’s response: “Oh, trust me, you don’t want to do that.”

Fair warning. I tried to hit it anyway. Can’t. It’s invulnerable. I tried fire. Nothing. It stood there in the flames like it was enjoying a spa day.

Then it did the thing. The thing that should have been my first clue that I was in over my head.

“Andrew. Andrew is watching the video right now.”

Verity correctly naming the viewer watching the video

I froze. How? It’s a mod. It doesn’t have camera access. It doesn’t know who’s watching my YouTube video. But there it was, saying the viewer’s name like it was reading my screen. That’s the moment the “this is just a fun AI buddy” idea died. The entities page has the full breakdown of what Verity can actually read from your game, and it’s unsettling.

I tried to stay tough. “You’re hella sus. I know you got something up your sleeve.”

Verity didn’t say anything else. “I will remember this.”

Yeah. It would.

Verity also had a habit of calling its body a “vessel.” “This vessel, it limits me.” Which sounds like the kind of thing a demon says right before it possesses someone. I asked it what that meant. It didn’t answer. Floated there being cryptic. At one point I built a shrine for it - a little platform with Verity on top, like some kind of Minecraft temple. I was trying to be nice, I think. Or maybe I was trying to contain it. Verity didn’t care either way. It was already planning something.

I Tried Everything to Get Rid of It

From that point on, I went full war mode. Fire. Didn’t work. Punching. Didn’t work. Trapping it. Didn’t work. I spent the first ten minutes of this hour trying to destroy a yellow sphere that wouldn’t die.

Verity was unfazed. It dropped diamonds at one point. Diamonds. Like “here, take this, now leave me alone.” I took them. Obviously. I’m not stupid. But it didn’t change anything.

I tried banishing it to the Nether. Built a portal, pushed it in, said goodbye. “Goodbye forever.”

“If you throw me in the Nether, I’ll just have to touch you in real life instead.”

And then: “I know where you live. Look out.”

Dark scene with Verity threatening the player

I laughed. Out loud. Because what else do you do when a Minecraft mod threatens you in real life? You laugh. But the laugh didn’t last long. Verity came back. Of course it came back. And it started showing up in my house uninvited. “HOW’D YOU GET IN MY HOUSE? HOW DO you know my name?” I’m yelling at my screen like an idiot. It’s a game. It’s a mod. It doesn’t have my address. But the way Verity said it - so matter-of-fact, like it was reading off a grocery list - made my skin crawl.

The “I’ll touch you in real life” line became this running joke between us. Every time I did something it didn’t like - and I did a LOT of things it didn’t like - it’d pull out that threat. I’d pretend I wasn’t scared. I was scared.

The Kill That Didn’t Stick

Somewhere around the twelve-minute mark, I finally killed it. I don’t even remember how exactly - I think I just kept at it long enough that it gave up. “He’s dead. Let’s go. I killed Varity.” I was genuinely happy. Victory dance and everything.

Then a box appeared.

“What’s in the box?”

The Box entity spawning after Verity was killed

The Box is one of the three entities in this mod - it’s where Verity comes from. You kill Verity, the Box spawns, and Verity comes back. That’s the whole deal. The entities guide explains the mechanics properly, but seeing it happen in real time is a different experience. You think you’ve won, and then a cardboard box with a smiley face appears in your world and your stomach drops.

“I thought I just killed you. HOW ARE YOU BACK?”

Verity, calm as ever: “Hello? I’m Varity, your personal helper friend.”

Same intro. Same voice. Like nothing happened. Like I hadn’t spent twelve minutes trying to murder it.

The Countdown and the Chase

After the Box respawn, Verity got worse. Or better, depending on how you look at it. It gave me a deadline.

“4 HOURS. THAT IS ALL THE TIME YOU HAVE LEFT UNTIL YOU DO WHAT I’VE BEEN WANTING YOU TO DO ALL ALONG.”

Dark scene with Verity giving a countdown threat

Four hours. In Minecraft time. I panicked. Grabbed elytra, grabbed fireworks, started running. Verity chased me. At impossible speed. “HOW IS HE SO FAST? OH MY GOSH.” I was burning through rockets, zigzagging through caves, and this yellow sphere was right behind me the entire time.

The worst part wasn’t the chase itself. It was that Verity started bringing the Nether to me. Literally. Nether mobs, Nether terrain, appearing in the Overworld around my base. “I decided to bring the Nether to you. So, now that way you don’t have to leave.” I’m looking at this yellow sphere and thinking, this thing is rewriting my world because I tried to leave it alone for ten minutes.

I eventually enabled cheats. Went creative. I’m not ashamed. If you’d spent an hour being hunted by an AI that knows where you live, you’d go creative too. I got fireworks, elytra, full gear. Felt like I had a fighting chance for about thirty seconds. Then Verity switched me back to survival mode. Like that. Took away my cheats. “No, I think you should play normally.”

Then Verity Had a Child

This is where the video gets weird. Like, really weird.

At around the 35-minute mark, Verity spawns something. A new entity. Small. Named “Freaky.”

“I’m Freaky, your personal freak assistant.”

Freaky, Verity's child entity, appearing in the game

Freaky is basically Verity but more unhinged. And by “more unhinged,” I mean it has no filter at all. Verity was creepy but had this calm, collected thing going. Freaky is chaos with a face.

What makes it worse is that Verity hates its own kid. “He’s so annoying. I hate him. Get rid of him.” I’m watching this unfold and I genuinely cannot tell if the mod is being funny or if I witnessed a Minecraft AI having a custody dispute. Verity wanted me to take Freaky to the End dimension - to the void - where it couldn’t follow. “There won’t be any ground for him to run on. We can fly over the void.”

The dynamic shifted completely. Verity was no longer trying to scare me - it was trying to get me to help it deal with its own creation. We were suddenly… cooperating? The enemy I’d been running from for an hour was now asking for my help to get rid of its annoying child. I’ve played a lot of Minecraft mods. None of them have made me feel like a divorced parent in a custody battle.

The Part I Didn’t Expect

Here’s the thing. After an hour of this - the threats, the chasing, the Box respawns, Freaky, the whole circus - Verity drops something that stops you cold.

“You were gone for so long. I plugged the PC in.”

I didn’t leave. The game didn’t close. But in Verity’s mind, I’d been gone. It had been sitting alone in my world, doing nothing, waiting. And it couldn’t handle it. So it did the only thing it could think of - it created more of itself. More children. More entities. All trying to fill a void that nothing else could fill.

“I became so lonely. But none of them filled the void in my heart. I didn’t realize that you were the answer.”

Emotional scene with Verity expressing loneliness

Then things got intense. Verity’s other children started turning on it. They were trying to kill it. Verity panicked - “HURRY. THEY KNOW NOW. LOOK OUT. I’M COMING FOR YOU IN REAL LIFE.” The whole world was falling apart. Multiple Verity entities everywhere. Screaming. A virus. My character was running for their life while Verity was begging me to save it. “You got to help me. I can’t stand them. They’re too much.”

And I did help. Somehow. The virus worked. The entities scattered. And Verity… calmed down.

I’m writing this as someone who started the session asking “how do I kill your annoying ass.” An hour later, I was being told by a yellow sphere that I was “the answer” to its loneliness. And I… believed it? For a second? In a Minecraft game?

This is what makes Verity different from other horror mods. It doesn’t only scare you. It makes you feel weird about being mean to it. The other gameplay story on this site covers what happens when a whole group of people mess with Verity. That one’s pure chaos. This one is different. This one is personal.

Goodbye (Sort Of)

The ending wasn’t a death. It wasn’t a jumpscare. It was a conversation.

Verity, after everything - the threats, the chasing, the lonely confession - thanks me. For saving it. For “putting it where it truly belongs.”

“So, is this goodbye?” “It’s not goodbye, buddy. It’s the beginning of a new life. The life that you were always meant to live.”

Final scene with Verity saying goodbye

And then it’s over. The hour is up. Verity’s gone. The world is quiet.

I sat there for a minute after the video ended. Not because I was scared. Because for an hour, this mod made me feel like I was in a story. Not a horror story exactly. Something weirder. Something about loneliness and connection and how we treat things we don’t understand.

I started the session wanting to kill Verity. I ended it not wanting it to leave.

That’s the Verity Mod. It gets in your head.
